DAY TEN - ALMOST

I’m almost out of Nebraska. I originally was going to Wray CO. after leaving Benkelman then on to Joes CO. I was not able to make it to a church I had wanted to visit in Wray today so actually there is no need to go that way.

I made it to Benkelman and the Ward Bond Memorial City Park. I was talking to a couple who walked by about an alternate route tomorrow to try and save some miles. I will be going to Bird City Kansas where I’ll connect with Route 36 and then head west. I think this will save me about 7 miles. Doesn’t sound like much but when you’re talking 92 vs. 85 miles it is.

I’ll be getting into the desolate part of Eastern Colorado so I need to make sure I have enough supplies. I’ll stock up at St. Francis Kansas, the last bigger city before I cross into Colorado.

Today was an ok type day. The weather was hot and I had a 10-15 mph headwind out of the SW. I had a few hills but nothing too major even though I walked up a few. The western part of the Nebraska is really beautiful thru the canyon areas.

Tomorrow’s destination – Joes rest area.
Ice Cream of the day – Blueberry and cream.
Miles today - 80
